Return Carbon continues CCS value chain development capability following agreement with CapeOmega

November 2024

Return Carbon and CapeOmega have collaborated since the start of 2022, building on expertise of both parties in engagements with industrial emitters and carbon storage operators, to create a unique capability providing insights on full value chain systems and delivering the most cost-competitive solutions to partners. As CapeOmega refocuses on infrastructure and maritime investments, the parties have agreed for Return Carbon to retain all rights to development and commercial IP for continued efforts on CCS value chain opportunities.

In partnership with CapeOmega, Return Carbon initiated the NoordKaap project servicing RWE’s future BECCS power plant in Eemshaven with a CCS solution. NoordKaap is premised on deploying Direct Offshore Injection technology, to be commissioned through Knutsen NYK Carbon Carriers (KNCC), as the most cost-competitive proposition in case of marine transport of CO2. Our capability to evaluate value chain dynamics and optimize design parameters, combined with deep industry experience in commercial negotiations and contracting strategy, will continue to service partners in Europe and USA. Return Carbon intends to play a pivotal role in integrated opportunity delivery in carbon markets.

CapeOmega AS, owned by Partners Group, is an infrastructure investor with ownership of LNG transport vessels, while interests in North Sea gas pipeline were recently sold to the Norwegian government. CapeOmega retains rights to financing opportunities stemming from projects developed by Return Carbon.

Return Carbon is a Stecc/Return venture
